ALBERT WENBAUM, 1890-1943
Albert Wenbaum (or Weinbaum) was born in Kamenez-Podolski, Poland, in the late 19th century; he studied at the Academies of Cracow and Odessa. He moved to Paris in 1909, where he painted still lifes of flowers, portraits, Parisian scenes and Jewish life. He exhibited at the Salon des Independants from 1909 and the Salon des Tuileries from 1928. He was a figure in Montparnasse in the 'grande epoque', from 1900-1940. Much of his work depicts characteristic scenes of family life, often Jewish. He disappeared during the Second World War.
