Leonid Pasternak (1862 - 1945). Russian artist, Leonid Pasternak moved to Berlin in 1921 and began working as a portrait painter. He befriended many cultural figures, including Leo Tolstoy. He illustrated Tolstoy's War and Peace; Resurrection. He also produced portraits of Max Liebermann and Albert Einstein. With the rise of Nazism, Pasternak left Germany and settled in England. He spent the final years of his life in Oxford.
